Obituary for Alethia Costen Sharpe
Alethia Costen (Letha) Sharpe was born on December 19, 1932 to the late Johnny and the late Johnnie Will Bell (Sarah) Costen in Tattnall County, Georgia. She was the second child of ten children. She departed this life on Friday, October, 20, 2017 at Optim Healthcare in Reidsville, Ga. Alethia was preceded in death by five brothers: Rayford, Raymond, Wesley, Calvin and Earl.
She accepted Christ at an early age and attended the local church in the Collins/Lynntown area. She met and after some courtship, married the late James Calvin (J.C.) Sharpe on August 18, 1951, who preceded her in death on February 6, 2009. To this union, three children were born, one daughter (Angela Fay) preceded her in death.
Later, she joined Ebenezer United Methodist Church, with her husband, serving in several capacities such as Church Secretary, United Methodist Women, Church Choir, and Church mother. Also was a member of the former chapter - Golden Beauty Court #122B Heroines of Jericho.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, David A. Sharpe of Reidsville, Geogia and Joseph C. Charpe of Portland, Oregan; a devoted daughter, Sandra Mann Rice; two sisters, Mable (Harold) Jones of Hagan, Georgia and Vernell (Wayne) Mills of Claxton, Georgia; two brothers: Charles Carson of Elmsford, New York and Cornelius (Priscilla) Costen of Collins, Georgia; A Goddaughter, Angie Clay Anthony of Reidsville, Georgia; two Godsons, Onassis Clay of Claxton, Georgia and Ferdinand Clay of Reidsville, Georgia; several God-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
