Mrs. Annie Ruth Moody Barnes was born in Evans County Georgia to the late Mrs. Ruby Mae Byrd Moody and Mr. James E. Moody, Sr. on December 27, 1942.
She was educated in the Evans County School System. Soon after completing school, Ann was married to L.C. Lee and to this union her 3 children were born: Louise, Dwayne, and Rickey Lee. Upon dissolving her marriage, Ann lived in Elizabeth, New Jersey for a few years, where she met her late husband, Mr. Melvin Barnes. They moved to Cleveland, Ohio and made that their home for the next 30 years.
Ann was gainfully employed by Ford Motors, Inc. in Ohio for over 30 years. She retired in 2001. She made a decision to move back home to Claxton, Georgia to take care of her ailing mother. She rejoined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Ann enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her home was a welcoming place, which held great memories for her immediate family. She loved to tell us old stories and we would all have a wonderful time with her! A snapshot of things she loved to do was watch old western movies, gameshows, and all Ohio sports teams, especially the “Cavs”.
Her brothers Dewey Byrd, James Jr. and Fred Moody, all preceded her in death.
Annie Ruth Moody Barnes departed this life on August 22, 2024 after a very brief illness in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Louise (Gcoby) McNeal of Decatur, Georgia; sons Dewayne Curtis Lee of Decatur, Georgia and Rickey Lee of Claxton, Georgia; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a loving and dedicated niece and nephew: Patrice “Pat” Byrd Brewton and Kelvin Anderson. She also leaves a special friend, Larry Wood.
