Obituary for Ben Kelly Oglesbee
Mr. Ben Kelly Oglesbee was born September 21, 1938 in Evans County, Georgia to the late Ben Oglesbee and Bessie Mae Davis Oglesbee. Ben was educated in the public school system of Tattnall County, Georgia and graduated in 1959 from the Tattnall County Industrial High School, Reidsville, Georgia.
After graduate, Ben enlisted in the United States Army, where he served two years. Upon returning home, he obtained employment with the Tattnall County Board of Education as a bus driver for two years. Ben was later employed at Ft. Stewart as a mechanic, where he worked for twenty-seven years before retiring.
Ben was joined in Holy Matrimony to Olerdean Arthur on August 27, 1066. They were blessed with two children. Ben was always good with his head and hands, and almost single-handedly built their current residence, with some help from family and professionals. He re-joined St. James AME Church in Glennville, Georgia, where he had an active membership.
Ben was preceded in death by six of his siblings, four sisters: Gertrude Williams, Lula B. Oglesbee, Vernease "Tea" McKinnon and Ann Frink; two brothers: Tommy Oglesbee and Calvin "Sonny" Oglesbee.
Ben leaves the following loved ones to cherish many fond memories: his devoted wife of fifty-one years, Olerdean Oglesbee of Glennville, GA; one daughter, Christine (Bob) Popovic of Glennville, Georgia; one son, Patrick "Lee" (JaCinta) Oglesbee of Glennville, GA; grandchildren: Matthew Oglesbee, Kelly Oglesbee, Dijon Bradley, Jaleesa Oglesbee, Austin Miller, and Patrick Oglesbee; two brothers: Carl Oglesbee and Gene (Earlene) Oglesbee , both of Glennville, GA; three aunts: Fannie Kennedy, Eva N. Williams and Francis Spencer; sisters-in-law: Ida P. Arthur of Columbus, Georgia, Shirley (John) Wright of Sanford, Florida, Linda (Jack) Johnson of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Peggy (L.H.) Bacon of Glennville, Georgia, Judy Williams of New Jersey, Hattie (Tommy) Roberts of Warrensburg, MO, and Ella M. Oglesbee of Claxton, Georgia; brothers-in-law: Cleveland Arthur, Jr. of Glennville, Georgia, Mickey (Denise) Arthur of Claxton, Georgia and Timmy Arthur of Texas; a very special cousin, Leola Arthur of Glennville, Georgia; and a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
