Obituary for Charles Willie James Harmon
On February 10, 1938, Charles Willie James Harmon entered this life in Emanuel County, Georgia, to the late Rev. Charlie and Mrs. Doxie Stephens Harmon. He attended school in Swainsboro, Georgia and began working as a brickmason in his teens. At the age of 19, he married the late Effie Mae Brantley and to this union four children were born: Wauneatha, Charlyene, Charles, Jr., and Stevie. To them, he was “Daddy” and “Pops”, but to many others he was known as CW, Uncle CW, Uncle C, and Unc.

It was important to him to take his daily walk from Robin Road over to sit on the porch with his nephew, Bobby. Along the way, he might stop at his favorite café for breakfast or stop and sit with his nephew Calvin for a bit.
CW was a carefree, joyful fellow with a ready laugh and a twinkle in his eyes. It was not his nature to complain, but to be optimistic. In these last years, many witnessed a noticeable change in CW. It was the Spirit of the Lord. He gave his heart to the Lord in 2011, as witnessed and led in prayer by his daughter, Charlyene. His latter years were filled with the peace, hope, and the joy of the Lord.

CW departed this life on Friday, November 19, 2021 after living a long and happy life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangelist Effie Mae (Brantley) Harmon and his daughter Wauneatha Harmon Wimberly; his parents, Rev. Charlie and Doxie Stephens Harmon; sisters: Iomia Lloyd, Juanita Smith, and Johnnie Bennett; and a brother, Charlie Harmon, Jr.
Remaining to cherish his memory are: his daughter, Charlyene (Nathan) Botley of Hartwell, Georgia; two sons: Charles W. Harmon, Jr., of Swainsboro, Georgia and Stevie Lee (Sheila) Harmon of Loganville, Georgia; one brother, Eddie (Ola Mae) Harmon of Chicago Illinois; one sister, Doris (Joe) Davis and one sister-in-law, Rearcie Mercer, both of Swainsboro, Georgia; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
