Obituary for Cynthia M. Smith
Proverbs 21:10 states: “ Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” Sister Cynthia Marie Brewton Smith, the child of the late Willie Lee Brewton, Sr. and Laura Etta Brewton, was born on June 1, 1948 in Evans County. She was known as “Cynt” by all that knew and loved her. Cynt was an energetic, generous, vibrant and loving person. She had many wonderful qualities, such as compassion, a loving spirit, and she was a peacemaker. She attended the Evans County High School, home of the Longhorns. Fulfilling the desire to continue her education, Cynthia attended Savannah State University. There she earned her degree in education. She worked at Central Texas College for nine years at Hunter Army Air Base. In 1990, Cynthia was employed by the Chatham County Board of Education as a teacher and taught for twenty-one years before retiring. Cynthia joined Jonesville Baptist Church on Montgomery Street in Savannah, Georgia. She served faithfully in many church auxiliaries under the leadership of Bishop James G. Rodgers. In 1968, Cynthia married the love of her life, Freddie Lee Smith. They lived together in Holy Matrimony for forty-six years until his death. To this union a handsome baby boy, Myron Smith, was born. He preceded her in death. In addition, she was preceded in death by one brother, Willie Lee Brewton, Jr. and one sister, Pastor Idella Brewton Love. To esteem her memories, Cynthia leaves behind: her loving, devoted mother, Mrs. Laura Etta Brewton; her grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye: Charie Freeman, Dallas and Skye Bella Smith; one great-grandchild: Gary Freeman; her loving sister, Mrs. Gloria Nunnally (Jeremiah); aunts: Mrs. Louise Penn, Mrs. Rosetta Burgest, Mrs. Clara Varanadoe Brewton, all of Daisy, Georgia, Pastor Lillie West Brewton of Claxton, Georgia; a special newphew, Mr. Duane Nunnally (Tammy); brothers-in-law: Mr. Roosevelt Smith, Jr., Mr. Joel Smith, Mr. Welton Smith, Mr. George Smith (Beatrice) and Mr. Eddie James Smith; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Carrie Holmes (Donnie), Mrs. Donna Hines (Frank); a Godson, Mr. Jamonoski L.
