Obituary for Eppie Mae Byrd Brown
Eppie Mae Byrd Brown, daughter of the late Houston and Bertha Bacon Byrd, was born on December 23, 1935. At an early age she joined Sams Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Eppie graduated from the Candler County Training School in Metter, Georgia.
After graduating, she moved to Florida before relocating to Queens, New York where she met and married the late John W. Brown on October 4, 1969. Eppie gained employment with the U.S. Postal Service in New York and worked there until retirement. She became a member of St. Luke Cathedral Church in Laurelton, New York. She was a Deaconess, a member of the Pastor's Aid and Hospitality Ministries. Eppie was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.
Her late husband, John W. Brown, died in 2014. Seven of her siblings also preceded her in death: John Brook Byrd, Warnell Byrd, Bernice B. Byrd, Geneva B. Gibson, Ronald George, Lottie Byrd Owens, and Robertha Byrd McClain.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one brother, U.L. Byrd of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one sister-in-law, Carolyn George of Twin City, Georgia; one brother-in-law: Sammie Owens of Orangeburg, South Carolina; a special niece, Inez Gibson Porter of Flushing, New York; two Goddaughters:Jacinda Porter-Brown of Flushing, New York and Janice Gibson Grant of Metter, Georgia; one Godson, Shakeim T. Richardson of Flushing, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
