Obituary for Eugene Lanes

Mr. Eugene (Gene) Lanes was born to parents Theodis and Juanita Hodges Lanes on November 29, 1946 in Metter, Georgia. After a brief stay in South Bend, Indiana, a move was made to Flint, Michigan. Eugene attended Flint schools, and graduated from Northwestern High School, Class of 1966.


Growing up, Gene was an avid reader and loved to read and collect comic books. But his first love was roller skating. He was able to afford his favorite past times with money he received from his part time job at Hamady Brothers.


Eugene entered the US Army right after graduation, serving from June 1967 to July1972. Gene completed two tours in Vietnam. After six years of service, Gene received an Honorable Discharge. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medals, and the Good Conduct Medal, 1st and 2nd AWD.


Gene married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Patrick, twice. They lived in Oakland, California where he owned and operated a health food store. Upon moving to Atlanta, Georgia, Gene worked as a medical transporter and a hotel worker. Eugene later moved to Metter, Georgia, where he cared for his aging parents. He last resided in Macon, Georgia.


Eugene was preceded id death by his parents, Eugene and Juanita Lanes, and his brother, Donnell Lanes.


Mr. Eugene Lanes leaves the following to cherish his memory: three sisters: Christine Henry, Marva Johnson, and Marilyn Clements, all of Flint, Michigan; and one brother, Theodis Lanes of Flint, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
