Homesilee “Lee” Primous born December 22, 1938 to the late Robert Primous, Sr. and Magnolia “Maggie” Jackson-Primous in Bulloch County, Georgia. He departed in death on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 in his home in Norfolk, Virginia, where he had been living the later years of his life.
Lee was a native of Evans County, Georgia where he grew up in Claxton, attended Daisy School and the Evans County public school system. He graduated high school in 1958, then joined the U. S. Army in 1961, serving three years. Lee joined in Holy Matrimony Bertha McCray on December 12, 1960. They relocated to Brooklyn, New York in 1963 where they raised their family. This union produced six children.
Lee had a forty-year career driving eighteen-wheeler trucks in the Tri-State area of New York City for Domino Sugar and other trucking companies. Always an ambitious and entrepreneurial man, he completed a technical certification from New York Technical College and started his television repair business and became known as the “TV Man”. In the 1970s, Lee’s love of sports and athleticism lead him to start an athletic baseball league named, “The Brooklyn Knights”. He later retired and completed another certification as a pest control specialist, “Prim Lane,” then opened a restaurant named, “Lee’s Southern Cuisine,” then later a taxi service.
Lee was later wedded to Dorothy Ward, and then Betty Menchan.
He was preceded in death by two children: Robert Primous and Hope Tamela Primous; twelve siblings: Maggie Primous-Gause (Hinesville, GA), Margaret Primous (Claxton, GA), Mittie Primous-Lonon (Homestead, FL), Ruby Primous-Brown (Syracuse, NY), Clara Primous-Harden (Claxton, GA), Willie Primous (Claxton, GA), Homer Primous (Claxton, GA), Elmore Primous (Claxton, GA), Grace Primous-Brown (Brooklyn, NY), Robert Primous, Jr. (Glennville, GA), Jessie Primous (Claxton, GA) and Diona Primous-McCray (Elizabeth, NJ).
To the loving memory of our father, he was all the three “P’s”: a parent; a provider and a protector. We are forever grateful and thankful for his encompassing love for us. He leaves the following loved ones: his children: Sherri Primous (Brooklyn, NY), Carol Primous-Johnson (Norfolk, VA), Juliette “Judy” Primous-Ruiz (Roswell, GA), Phyllis “Lisa” Primous (Chicago, IL); Big Daddy’s Grandchildren: Kendall Primous, Danielle Blocker, Philip Ruiz, Andrew Ruiz, Talibah Primous-Prioleau, Zahirah Primous, Kyra Johnson, and Adrianna Johnson. Great-grandchild: Nia Ruiz; one sister-in-law, Yvonne Primous (Reidsville, GA); one goddaughter, Teresa Lee Branch (New York, NY); and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
