James Louis Cooper, age 75, of Mt. Vernon, Georgia, known personally by close friends and acquaintances as Coop or Broom, was born on September 5, 1949 in Metter, Georgia. He departed this world peacefully on November 19, 2024, joining his beloved parents Daisy Johnson and Ned Alvin in their eternal home.
A native of Metter, James graduated from Metter High School in 1967. He was a talented and polished basketball player who exemplified prowess on and off the court. He was a dignified Navy seaman and served his country with honor and respect. He later pursued a career with Greyhound in Dayton, Ohio where he worked until retirement.
James was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Mrs. Shirley Fraizer Cooper of Pearson, Georgia; his one and only son, Mr. Cary Cooper of Dayton, Ohio; one aunt, Mrs. Dora C. White of Austell, Georgia; his siblings: Mr. Danforth Alvin of Metter, Georgia; Mr. Ronnie Alvin (Cynthia Jarrell) of Metter, Georgia, and Ms. Deborah Alvin of Leesburg, Florida, and Ms. Maureene Johnson of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
James’ memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He was loved dearly and will greatly be missed.
