Obituary for Janice Smith
Ms. Janice Marie Smith was born on March 4, 1962 in Metter, Georgia to Ms. Lois Smith and the late Mr. Melvin Holloway. As a youth, she became a member of Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church in Metter. She received her early education in the Candler County school system before transferring to Bulloch County. Janice graduated from Statesboro High School in 1980. After earning her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Janice was employed as a devoted and dedicated nurse, most notably at Metter Nursing Home and Pleasant View Nursing Home in her hometown of Metter. After her nursing career, Janice unselfishly dedicated her time to being the primary caretaker of her mother, being devoted to her two sons, and enjoying the company and conversation of friends and family. She later became a member of Durden Grove Baptist Church in Twin City, Georgia. Janice was happiest when occupied with a good book or in the kitchen preparing a family feast. On Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at age 54, Janice passed away, leaving a lifetime of memories to be cherished. She is survived by two sons: Mr. Sitafa Summerlin of Claxton, GA and Mr. Chadrick Smith of Albuquerque, NM; her beloved mother, Ms. Lois Atkinson of Metter, GA; five brothers: Mr. Mickey Smith of Joliet, IL, Mr. Frederick Smith (Denise) of Columbia, SC, Mr. Doug Smith (Tamika) of Metter, GA, Mr. Tyrone Atkinson (Brandy) of Claxton, GA, and Mr. Melvin Holloway, Jr. of North Carolina; two sisters: Ms. Wanda Holloway of New York and Ms. Carolyn Holloway Mincey of Statesboro, GA; one Goddaughter, Ms. Arshe’ Johnson of Statesboro, GA; her special friend, Ms. Wanda Arinze of Metter, GA; eight nieces, five nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
