Obituary for Joe Baker
“A precious one from us is gone, a voice we loved is still, a place is vacant in our home, the world can never fill.” Mr. Joe Bacon was born on March 20, 1927 in Claxton, Georgia to the late Mr. Ed and Mrs. Mary Jane Bacon. He departed this life on Wednesday morning, August 24, 2016. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Mrs. Evelyn Slater Bacon in the summer of 1946. He was a member of Green Cypress Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended regularly until his health failed. Four children preceded him in death: Barbara J. Newton, Sadie Ruth Grove, Mae Evelyn Walker and Charles Beasley. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Bacon leaves the following to cherish his memories: nine children: Dorothy Williams of Prince George, Virginia; Thelma Littles, Johnnie Bacon, Mary Love, Evangelist JoAnn Howard (James), Gwendolyn Holley (Orie), Judy Bacon, James E. Bacon, and Beverly Moore, all of Claxton, Georgia; three grandchildren raised by Joe and Evelyn Bacon: Caretha Mincey (Randy) of Claxton, Georgia, Von Newton (Raquel) of Rincon, Georgia and Jimmie Newton of Millen, Georgia; one sister, Lillie Mae Smart of Claxton, Georgia; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Magdalene Carter of Ponoma Beach, Florida, Sarah Williams, Jewell Hayward (Roy), Annie Grace Badger, and Nomi Slater, all of Claxton, Georgia, Kathy Sapp and Ernestine Badger, both of Oakland, California, Willie E. Badger of Sacramento, California and Ernest Badger of Daly City, California; thirty-nine grandchildren, eighty great-grandchildren, twenty-four great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
