Obituary for Joseph (JT) Tyler
Mr. Joseph Tobe (J.T.) Tyler was born on June 6, 1935 in Metter, Georgia to the late Mr. Frank Tyler and the late Mrs. Alma Byrd Tyler. He attended the public schools of Candler county and was a graduate of the Candler County Training School. After graduating, J.T. enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country for several years and earned the following medals and citations: Korean SVC Medal, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, ROK Presidential Unit Citation, Merit Unit Commendation, and the Good Conduct Medal. After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the Army, J.T. returned to Metter. He was joined in Holy Matrimony on May 6, 1968 to Lulawease Dekle Tyler. To this union, two children were born: J.T. Tyler, Jr. and Tomeka Tyler. His son preceded him in death. J.T. accepted Christ into his life and joined Tremont Temple Baptist Church in Metter. During his working life, J.T. was employed with Durden Pecan Company in Metter and later with Claxton Steel Company in Statesboro. He was also a Certified Forklift/Heavy Equipment Operator. But he spent most of his working years at Georgia Southern University, where he was employed for thirty years prior to retirement. Mr. J.T. Tyler passed into eternal rest on February 4, 2021. He leaves the following loved behind to cherish many fond memories: his devoted wife, Mrs. Lulawease Tyler of Metter, Georgia; his children: Mrs. Tomeka Tyler Dixon (Michael) of Cairo, Georgia, Ms. Renee Summerlin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mr. Wendell Harvey of Statesboro, Georgia, and Ms. Dominique Coney of Metter, Georgia; five grandchildren: Mr. Kendill Griffin (Alexis) of Metter, Georgia, Ms. Kimbra Griffin of Statesboro, Georgia, Mr. Michael Dixon, Jr., of Cairo, Georgia, Ms. Tiffany Dixon of Tallahassee, Florida, and Mr. Barry Dixon of Panama City, Florida; five great-grandchildren: KaMara, Kayden, Kingston, Kaelynn, and Khloe; his sister: Mrs. Frankie L. Mercer of Jacksonville, Florida; one aunt: Mrs. Thelma Byrd of Metter, Georgia; five brothers-in-law: Mr. Joe Dekle of Miami, Florida, Mr. Robert Dekle of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mr. Jack Dekle of Metter, Georgia, Mr. Roosevelt Dekle (Marilyn) of Miami, Florida and Mr. Larry Dekle of Miami; five sisters-in-law: Ms. Lois Dekle of Miami, Florida, Ms. Rhoda Wadley (Paul) of Swainsboro, Georgia, Ms. Grace Joiner (Joe) of Metter, Georgia, Mrs. Maggie Bailey of Miami, Florida and Mrs. Anna Marie Spratling of Metter, Georgia; thirteen additional grandchildren and fifteen additional great-grandchildren; and a host loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
