Obituary for Julian Wilkerson, Sr.

Mr. Julian M. Wilkerson Sr. was born in Evans County to the late Mr. Walker McKinley Wilkerson and the late Mrs. Ethel Williams Wilkerson on August 22, 1952. He entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia.


He graduated high school in 1970 from Evans County High School. He later attended Savannah State College for a brief period. For over 41 years he worked as boiler technician at International Paper in Garden City, Georgia.


Julian was joined into Holy Matrimony to Bernistine S. Wilkerson in 1972. To this union four children were born. He later joined the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Reidsville, Georgia along with his wife. Julian served as chairman of the Deacon Board for many years.


Julian was an avid gardener. He loved to see things grow. He sold produce throughout Claxton, Metter, Savannah, and other surrounding counties. After retirement he devoted much of his time to gardening with his cousin and spending time with his family.


Julian was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Alton Wilkerson, Mary Beth Whitehead, Lelia Mae Linton, Earl Wilkerson, and Dorothy Wilkerson.


Julian leaves the following loved ones to cherish his memory: his wife of 51 years, Bernistine; his daughter, Denise (Pastor Jeffery) Lewis of Statesboro, GA; three sons: Julian M. Wilkerson Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA , Jonathan Wilkerson of Statesboro, GA, and Alton Jermaine (Sonia) Wilkerson of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Rasheen McKinnon of Arlington, TX, Aria Wilkerson of Atlanta, GA, Zion Wilkerson of Statesboro, GA, Aeson Wilkerson of Atlanta, GA, Kaiden Wilkerson of Atlanta, GA, Tyler Wilkerson of Lawrenceville, GA, and Kashton Wilkerson of Atlanta, GA; one adopted sister, Catrynda Williams of Atlanta, GA; two nephews: Michael and Stevie Wilkerson; three nieces: Cheryl Kennedy, Yolanda Linton, and Marlene Wilkerson; two sisters-in-laws: Marion (Gene) McKinnon and Jeanette Lewis; five brothers-in-law: Floyd, Russell, Gary, Kenny, and Ricky (Candis) McFadden, all of Claxton, GA; special family members: Oscar Hatcher, Eva Nell Wilkerson, Beretta and Al Reece, Patti Woodson, Carrie Bryant, Pearline Childers, Patricia Phelps, Evone Stephens, Barbara Thomas Cooper, Larry, Lynn, and Cornelius Garrison; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
