Obituary for Lois Smith Atkinson
Mrs. Lois Gwendolyn Smith Atkinson was born on April 9th, 1941 in Candler County, Georgia to the late Mr. Buford Smith Sr. and the late Mrs. Louvenia Banks Smith. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age, and joined the Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church (Fish Trap) in Bulloch County. Later, the Progressive Group Members of the church moved to Metter, Georgia and she continued her membership with them, while also serving in the choir. Lois worked faithfully for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at various nursing homes and later in her life she was employed at Concerted Services Incorporated in her hometown of Metter. She was not only devoted to her family, but also those in her community, to include family and friends that needed her assistance. In 1974, Lois was united in Holy Matrimony to Seth Atkinson, who preceded her in death. Also preceding Lois in death were three sisters (Alzada Hagins, Beola Wilkerson, Rebecca Gainer) her daughter (Janice Smith), and three step-children (Rob Atkinson, Verlene Atkinson, and Seth Atkinson, Jr). On Wednesday, September 21st, 2016, Lois passed away quietly under hospice care at her home. She leave to cherish her memories four sons: Mr. Mickey Smith of Metter, Georgia; Mr. Fredrick Smith (Denise Smith) of Columbia, South Carolina, Mr. Douglas Smith (Tamika Smith) of Metter, Georgia and Mr. Tyrone Atkinson (Brandy Atkinson) of Claxton, Georgia; six step-children, Mrs. Jackie Threat (Harry Threat), Mr. Billy Atkinson Sr. (Faye Atkinson) and Mr. Bobby Atkinson (Trina Atkinson) all of Macon, Georgia, Evang. Felicia Harrell (David Harrell) of Savannah, Georgia, Ms. Damita Atkinson of Statesboro, Georgia and Mrs. LaRhonda Turnquest (James Turnquest) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three sisters, Ms. Ruth Ann Newton, Ms. Ola Mae Smith and Ms. Debbie Taylor, all of Metter, Georgia; two brothers, Mr. Buford Smith Jr. (Isabella Smith) and Mr. Joe H. Smith (Gussie Smith) , both of Metter, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, four brother-in-law, sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
