Obituary for Lurine Cheryl Moncrease
Mother Lurine Cheryl Moncrease was born on June 9, 1932 in Claxton, Georgia. She was the oldest of three children born to the late Frank and Rosalee Williams. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Evans County High School in 1953.
Lurine moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1953 and joined Hartford Avenue Baptist Church. She met and married Richard Moncrase, Sr. and to this union five chidlren were born: Richard Jr., Anita, David, and the twins, Darryl and Deborah.
Lurine attended Wayne County Community College, where she received an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. She later enrolled in the University of Detroit, where she earned her bachelor's degree and teaching certificate. She taught at Northwestern and Henry Ford high school and later at Munger Middle School, from which she retired.
On Friday, February 9 2018 Lurine departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memory: five children: Richard Jr. of Detroit, MI, Anita of Southfield, MI, David (Rena) of Morena Valley, CA, Darryl (Cathy) of Southfield, MI and Deborah Allen of Detroit, MI; ten grandchildren: Kourtni, Kimberly, Brandon, Tiffany, Brittani (Brandon), Monique, Kiera, Demetrius, Rashard, and Donavan; four great-grandchildren, Demetrius, Dillyn, Elan and Gabriel, one sister, Ada Bacon on Batavia, NY; two sisters-in-law: Emmie Thomas and Helen Turner of Castleberry, NJ; a special daughter, Tonia; a special grand niece, Kim; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
