Obituary for Rev. Garry Lamont Griswold

A Time to Be Born:

On a wonderful day, April 22, 1960, Garry Lamont Griswold was born in Brooklyn, New York to Mr. James Richard Griswold and Mrs. Verna Mae Griswold Core. Garry was married to the love of his life Gloria Jane Becton in April of 1982, until his passing on September 8, 2023.


A Time for Every Purpose under the sun:

Garry attended Southern Wayne High School in Dudley, North Carolina where he was the Student Council Treasurer. He served as a member of various clubs such as the School Chorus, Music Club, and Spanish Club. Garry was also active on the track team. He attended Mount Olive College in 1979 and majored in Sociology. He was a faithful member of Elm Grove Church of Christ Disciples of Christ for several years. Garry later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1982 where he became a faithful member of Greater St. Stephen Baptist Church, and served as a Deacon in training. He also attended Southern University of New Orleans. After relocating with his family to Georgia, Garry attended college and received his certification in Nursing. He was a dedicated and compassionate person who loved to help others. Garry also received his calling into Ministry as a Minister of the gospel at New Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church and was ordained to become Rev. Garry Griswold. He engaged in various community events and church functions. God later called Rev. Griswold to establish an outreach ministry which involved a Women’s Prison Ministry and establish an outreach ministry called Koinonia Outreach Ministry. His most prized possession was Bible Study every Tuesday night via teleconference.


A Time to Transition from Earth to Glory:

On September 8, 2023, God called Rev. Garry Lamont Griswold to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his father, James Richard Griswold and his daughter, Vernitta Ann Griswold.


A Time to Celebrate:

Rev. Griswold leaves the following loved ones to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Mrs. Gloria Jane Griswold of Claxton, Georgia; his son, Deacon James Alton Griswold of Claxton, Georgia; his mother, Mrs. Verna Griswold Core of Dudley, North Carolina; one brother, Mr. Ricky (Anita) Griswold of Maryland; The Core siblings; one God sister, Ms. Toya Brown of New York; two aunts; one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
