Obituary for Thomas Roberts
Deacon Thomas H. Roberts, 87, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia. Deacon Roberts was born September 13, 1933 in Long County to the late Mr. Ervin and Mrs. Eula Roberts. He was one of four siblings, two preceding him in death: Joseph Roberts and Eula Roberts Wilkerson. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mother Doris M. Roberts on June 12, 1955. To this union, five children were born. During his life he was employed at Daniel Feed Store, Glennville Sanitation Service, Head Start bus driver, and Billy Durrence Farm. At an early age, Deacon Roberts joined the First African Missionary Baptist Church, where he was very active until his health failed. Deacon Thomas Roberts was saved and loved the Lord. He was a dedicated Prayer Warrior, a servant of God in whatever he did. He served as Vice Chairman of the Deacon Board of First African Missionary Baptist Church, Superintendent of Sunday School, and Trustee. He was active in the Senior Choir, Senior Mission - whatever the hat - he wore it with pride. He was the oldest male member of the church. Deacon Roberts was a member of the Housing Authority Board, Treasurer Emeritus Emancipation Proclamation and Treasurer of NAACP until his health failed. Grand Lodge/Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Sons of Glennville #358, Stars of Glennville #162, Holy Royal Arch Mason, Knights of Temple, Baxley Consistory #209, Heroines of Jericho, and lastly United Supreme Council #33°. He leaves to cherish his many memories, his children - three sons: Mr. Tommy (Hattie) Roberts of Warrenburg, MO; Mr. James Ivy (Diann) Roberts and Mr. Ervin Roberts, both of Glennville, GA; two daughters: Mrs. Ilka (Jimmie) McKinney of Las Vegas, NV and Ms. Tracey Jackson, Glennville, GA; a devoted sister, Mrs. Pauline R. Williams of Glennville, GA; a brother-in-law, Mr. Johnny (Hattie) Murphy of Glennville, GA; two sisters-in-law, Ms. Etwinda Murphy of Glennville, GA and Mrs. Mattie J. Mobley of Savannah, GA; two brothers-in-law: Mr. Charlie (Dorothy) Cook of Glennville, GA and Mr. Joe (Corentha) Cook of Durham, NC. A host of loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom adored their PaPa; his God daughter, Ms. Ja Tonya Washington; his God son Mr. Rufus Moody, Jr. He will be missed dearly by a special nephew and caregiver, Mr. Jeffrey Murphy and granddaughter Ms. Staci Collins, both of Glennville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
