Obituary

Mother Doris M. Roberts passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Mother Roberts was born to the late Bro. Ivy Murphy, Sr. and Sis. Almire Harris in Long County, Georgia. She was one of eight siblings, six of who preceded her in death: Ivy Murphy, Jr., Robert Murphy, Samuel Murphy, Barney Murphy, Chester Murphy and Mildred Sutton. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Bro. Thomas H. Roberts on June 12, 1955. To this union, five children were born. During her life, she was employed at the Townhouse Motel and the Glenvue Nursing Home, where she attended a nursing program offered and received formal nursing training. Later she was employed by the Tattnall Memorial Hospital, where she retired. She also volunteered her services at the Glennville Welcome Center. At an early age Mother Roberts joined the First African Missionary Baptist Church, where she was very active. Mother Roberts was saved and loved God. A dedicated Prayer Warrior and servant of God in whatever she did. Mother Roberts sang in the choir and served as President of various auxilliaries. She presently was serving in the capacity as one of the First African Missionary Baptist Church, Church Mothers. Mother Roberts was very active in the Glennville Area Ministerial Allinace (G.A.M.A.), The Red Cross, Cancer Awareness and the Migrant Ministry. Mother Doris M. Roberts leaves to cherish her many memories: her devoted husband, Thomas H. Roberts; three sons: Tommy (Hattie) Roberts of Warrenburg, MO, James (Diann) Roberts and Ervin Roberts, both of Glennville, GA; two daughters, Tracey Jackson of Mahboula, Kuwait and Ilka (Jimmie) McKinney of Frederickburg, VA; a devoted brother, Johnny (Hattie) Murphy of Glennville, GA; one sister-in-law, Pauline Williams of Savannah, GA; one step-sister, Mattie J. Mobley of Savannah, GA; two foster brothers, Charlie (Dorothy) Cook of Glennville, GA and Joe (Corentha) Cook of Durham, NC; a host of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored and in kind, adored her and will also miss her; a goddaughter, Jatorya Washington and a godson, Rufus Moody, Jr.; she will be missed by two "special daughters" and two "special friends". She sadly will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
