Obituary

Elder Daniel Prentice Murphy Sr. was born on October 31, 1961 to the late Artis and Fannie Mae Murphy in Reidsville, Georgia. He attended Tattnall County Industrial High School and enjoyed playing basketball. Soon after pursing a preliminary education, on October 25, 1980 he married the love of his life, Annie Ruth Howard; over the years this union bore 9 children. Armed with a budding family, Prentice devoted his life to Christ in 1981 and joined Hagan Temple under the leadership of Bishop James C. Hagan; a relationship that developed into a lifelong friendship and mentorship that led Prentice into ministry. Hagan Temple proved to be a beacon of Christian leadership and advancement, allowing him to further develop a passion for playing the guitar – a passion inspired by Deacon Lumpkin. His love and devotion to the guitar soon progressed into a musical calling that led him to a career as a traveling guitarist. His musical ministry touched the lives of many over the years. He traveled far and wide playing for revivals, services, and numerous quartet groups. He loved the Lord and was always ready to share the word of God and lend a helping hand. After a short illness, the Lord called him to Glory on May 31, 2018 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. During his time with us, his unwavering devotion was to his family. Preceding him in death are his parents, Artis and Fannie Mae Murphy, and his brother Carl Small. He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loving wife of 37 years, Annie Ruth Murphy of Bulloch County, GA; 10 loving children, Reneka Robinson (Deontae), Shonna Jones, LeNora Robertson (Nicholas), Hillary Coney (Reco), Audria Murphy, Sasha Murphy, Sonya Reynolds (Carlos) Reynolds, Justin Murphy (Raven), LaTishia Fields, and Daniel Murphy, Jr. 11 devoted siblings, Wilson Williams (Mamie), Martha Taylor (John), Levon Murphy (Johnnie Mae), Samuel Murphy (LaWanda), Fredrick Murphy, Margie "Veta" Thomas (Mark), Patricia Bacon (Bennie), Calvin "CowBoy" Murphy (Barbara), Stevie Murphy (Tracey), Jackie James (Ronnie); 24 grandchildren, a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
