Neomia M. Slater was born December 15, 1937 in Evans County, Georgia to the late Vernita Smith Richardson and the late Kelly Mincey.   During the evening of June 18, 2026, Heaven's doors opened and welcomed her home. 

At an early age, Neomia gave her life to Christ and attended New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Tar City. She later became a member of Hagan Temple in Hagan,  Georgia under the leadership of the late Bishop James Hagan. After his passing, she served under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Benjamin Hagan. She was a faithful member and Mother of the Church until her health failed.

She worked at J.R. Roger's Restaurant for many years. She loved to cook and bake.  In addition,  she worked at Claxton Manufacturing Company for a long time, and later she was employed by Claxton Poultry Farms.

Neomia was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Roosevelt Slater; five children: Grady Slater, Sandra D. Slater, Keywana Slater, Emma Jean Slater, and Kelly Slater; three brothers: Troy Mincey, Roger Mincey,  and Leroy Mincey; two sisters: Helen McClain and Sarah Cox.

She leaves the following loved ones to cherish her memory: two guardian grandchildren: Breon R. Geiger and Jawana M. Mobley, both of Claxton, Georgia; one daughter: Iomia Slater of Statesboro, Georgia; two sons: Charles Slater of Tampa, Florida and Roosevelt Slater, Jr. (Patricia) of Claxton, Georgia; four sisters: Josie Mincey of Savannah,  Georgia, Jewell Sharpe (Reginald), Shirley Rogers (Edward), and Willie McKinnon (Bill), all of Reidsville, Georgia; two brothers: Jerry Mincey (Dorthy) and Larry Mincey,  both of Savannah, Georgia; and a host of grandchildren,  great-grandchildren,  nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
