Obituary for Dora Mae Booker
Sis. Dora M. Booker was called from her earthly home on October 30, 2021. She was born in Canoochee, Georgia to the late Mr. Rozier and Mrs. Vera Simmons Thomas, and was the fourth child of seven children.

Sis. Booker was married to the late Deacon James Booker in 1956 and of that union, they were blessed with two children.
She joined the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully until her health declined. During her years as a member of Mt. Gilead, Sis. Booker held many positions. She served as a dedicated and committed member of the Usher Board for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Missionary Department, Willing Worker Department, and the Deaconess Board.

Sis Booker was a homemaker and spent several years dedicating her time to helping others in their homes. She enjoyed conversing with anyone she came into contact with. She didn’t mind telling you “how good God is and how good He has always been”. She took her role as an elder in the community seriously and you could often hear her offering her godly wisdom. Sis. Booker was a joy to be around. She loved to laugh and could definitely make light of any situation with her many jokes. Sis. Booker will be missed by all who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon James Booker; a daughter, Ms. Gerry Teagle; a great-grandson, Dexter Booker, Jr. (DJ); her sisters: Ms. Willie M. Byrd, Ms. Lillie Bell Sanders, and Ms. Alice Chance; a brother, Deacon John D. Thomas.

Sis. Dora Booker leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter: Ms. JoAnn Booker, Swainsboro GA; one step-daughter: Mrs. Mary Jenkins, Lakeland, FL; one step-son: Mr. Alphonso Heyward, Lyons GA; two granddaughters: Ms. Dorcel Booker, Swainsboro, GA and Ms. Devera Booker, Augusta, GA; two grandsons: Mr. Dexter Booker, Swainsboro, GA and Mr. Donald “Deuce” Teagle, Augusta GA; three great-grandchildren: D’Asia Booker, De’Kiya Booker, and Dekolby Booker, all of Swainsboro, GA; two sisters: Ms. Minnie Lee Thomas, Canoochee, GA and Ms. Sarah Thomas, New Jersey; one sister-in-law: Mrs. Corrine Hampton, Swainsboro, GA; one brother-in-law: Mr. Robert Warner, Swainsboro, GA; several nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
