Obituary for Evangelist Mary Alice Williams
Evangelist Mary Alice Porter Williams was born September 5, 1934 to the late Mr. James and Mrs. Eliza Porter, in Groveland, Bulloch County, Georgia. She was reared in Daisy, Evans County, Georgia and was one of ten children, all of whom preceded her in death. She acquired her education in the Evans County public school system. Evangelist Williams was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Willie Williams Jr. and to this union eight children were born, two of which preceded her in death: Derrick Lamar and Michael Keith Williams.

After moving to Maywood, Illinois in 1958, she attended The Scientific School of Beauty Culture in Chicago, Illinois. Working in that field while raising her children, Evangelist Williams became a Metallurgical Chemist and worked at this profession until she retired. Also during her time in Illinois, she and her husband would open their home to numerous family and friends needing housing, as they began their new life after moving from Georgia to Illinois. Evangelist Williams had a powerful spiritual journey, beginning with St. Luke Baptist Church of Daisy GA. As a member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church of Maywood, Illinois she served as an Usher and was best known for her dramatic readings. Becoming a Born Again Christian being, she was called into the ministry. Under the tutelage of Apostle Donald Alford of Progressive Life-Giving Word Cathedral, she was ordained Evangelist Mary A. Williams. Upon returning to Claxton in 1999, Evangelist Williams continued her journey at Healing Temple of Claxton, making numerous speaking engagements.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: one son: Mr. Willie Williams, Maywood, IL: five daughters Ms. Debra Johnson of Desert Hot Springs, CA, Ms. Renae Bell of Orlando FL, Ms. Carron of Columbia SC, Ms. Nicole of Douglasville GA, and Ms. Briana Williams of Claxton GA; nine grandchildren: Taquana (Donte), Diamond (Albert), Tammera, Teresa, Victor, Biancah, Carnise, Michael and Karen; thirteen great-grandchildren: Andrenae, Lester, Andrea, Akeem, Londi, D'Audrey, Zuri, Zahiah, Bryce, and 5 others; and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
