Obituary for Gene Aubrey Nash
Gene Aubrey Nash was born on May 11, 1941 in Collins, Georgia to the late Willie Nash, Sr and the late Ethel Jackson Nash. He entered into eternal rest on March 19, 2022.

He accepted Christ into his life at an early age, and become a member of First St. John Primitive Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia, where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board. Gene was also a faithful member of the New Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Association, as well as the Georgia State Primitive Baptist Convention, where he served on many committees.

Gene received his formal education in Tattnall County elementary and middle schools, and graduated from Tattnall County Industrial High School in 1959. He received his BSN degree in Social Science from Savannah State University, a Masters degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University, and a Doctorate degree from Berne University.
His teaching career began at Telfair County High School, where he worked for one year before moving to Montgomery County Training School. While working at Montgomery County, he was a teacher and a coach for the girl’s basketball team for two years. He then taught Social Studies at Reidsville High School in Tattnall County for several years and was later appointed as Assistant Principal at Reidsville Elementary School from 1996-2001. Gene was appointed Principal of Collins Elementary-Middle School in 2001, where served until retirement in 2005.

Gene was a beloved and devoted family man, educator, historian and author. He was a sports enthusiast, an avid reader, a studious man, and a Bible-reading man. He is fondly remembered for never failing to stop and discuss his faith, the Bible, or history. When he spoke, many listened! Gene was always willing to lend a helping hand. He obtain many awards and trophies for his work as an educator, coach and Deacon. One of his proudest accomplishments was writing and publishing his book, which was entitled “All God’s Children”, and was based on his family history.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Trellis, Warnell, Herbert, Evelyn, Quida, Willie, and Roland.

He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years: Mrs. Virginia Nash; two children: Mr. Benjamin Nash (Megan) and Ms. Stephanie Renee Nash; five grandchildren: Marley, Layliana, Tyamma, Neveah, and JD; two great-grandchildren, and a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
