Obituary for Dorothy L. McCollum
Ms. Dorothy L. McCollum was born in Bulloch County, Georgia on May 10, 1938 to the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Ruth McCollum. She was educated in the public school systems of Bulloch County and Candler County, and was a graduate of Lillian Street High School.
Dorothy accepted Christ into her life at an early age and joined St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church. She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1961, but she maintained a love for her home church, and continued to support St. Matthews. Whenever she came home, she visited and enjoyed fellowship with the Pastor and members.
Dorothy was preceded in death by four siblings: Alberta Jones, David C. McCollum, Willie Lee Byrd, and Willie Lee McCollum.
She leaves the following to cherish fond memories: two sons: Ricky McCollum and Michael McCollum, both of Chicago, Illinois; four loving grandchildren: Jarrod Michael McCollum, Aaron Elliott McCollum and Darcy McCollum, all of Chicago, Illinois and Paige Matthews (Marcus Matthews) of Meridian, Mississippi; two sisters: Pearl Tanner of Register, Georgia and Stella M. Williams of Metter, Georgia; three brothers: Ernest McCollum of Acworth, Georgia, B.C. McCollum and Jimmy McCollum, both of Metter, Georgia; two aunts: Arethia Dekle and Thelma Byrd, both of Metter, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Peggy McCollum of Metter, Georgia; one Godbrother, J.A. McPherson of Metter, Georgia; four great-grandchildren, and many loving and caring nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
